It has the power to lift someone up or tear apart, and the impression remains for years. Maybe lifetime!!
Middle School is a special phase when the children start becoming more independent & detaching from childhood and parents. Hence they need a social family of friends, outside home for companionship and understanding. However, to belong one has to conform. And, ‘fitting in’ is complicated.
Based on this theme and premised on R. J Palacio’s book ‘Wonder’, WORDPLAY has designed a 4- week summer writing program.
WONDER: The power and pull of middle school friendships
The children will explore the emotional journey of the protagonist, August, hence making reading an integral part of the curriculum. They will correlate and perceive their own journey objectively and learn to effectively word their thoughts through various writing activities of the program.
- Work on their vocabulary; understand new words and phrases with context.
- Learn writing techniques.
- Write 4 different genres of creative writing.

This interactive session of wordplay indeed helped my daughter a lot. They explored 4 genres of creative writing. Soumi brilliantly helped the children to explore the essence of the book and extend it to their personal experience and developed beautiful personal narratives in various creative forms. Every child has their own thought process which needs to be ignited. Soumi catalyses it with her innovative ideas. My daughter is overwhelmed after participating in this session.
